Being a full time writer is draining. Yes you get to indulge in your creativity and do something you love everyday, but at the same time it's very time consuming. Especially when you have to fit other things in with your writing. I for one am a full time writer for a company named Eduland. I write children's stories for them. I am also a ghostwriter for a client that wants his life story writing. So how do I find the time to cope with a full time writing job and write my own novels? Read on to find out!
Let's get personal...what do I have going on?
I definitely do not want this blog to be a place that I come to and moan about my life to my fans. We all have hard lives that is just a fact. I definitely have a large amount of personal problems from bad mental health to a number of physical health conditions. I am somewhat of a pessimist. But writing anything whether it's my own writing, writing for a client or writing my blog helps me in someway. It's a form of escapism and it's something we all need when things get tough. My life is a daily struggle and writing has been the only consistency in my life. The only thing that I am proud to have. I am proud when people say I have a talent for it and when I get recognised for being a good writer. A lot of people ask me how I find the head space to write every single day when I have so much going on that gets me down. The truth is some days I don't. Some days I write a short poem. Some days I write in my private depression blog to talk through my feelings. My full time work is quite flexible as long as I get the job done by the deadlines. I guess I am lucky to be a quick typer and be able to keep good standards when typing fast. But my message to you my wonderful readers is that you shouldn't feel guilty for needing a break from something you love. Sometimes I'm just too busy to write and other times I'm just not in the mood. But it is my favourite hobby and my whole livelihood so it always holds a special place in my heart.
Do I have a tight schedule?
Most days, yes. I have a very busy and organised schedule. I visit my family once a week, I socialise with friends at least once every two days, I complete one story a week for Eduland, I spend time with my fiance, I write at least one chapter a week for my next novel, I keep the house tidy, I edit my stories for Eduland, I manage my blog and my social media. The list goes on. They are just the basics but I also have a lot of hospital and doctors appointments constantly. It can get very overwhelming to try to fit everything in. There is a constant battle between not knowing whether to work on my 3rd novel or work for my company. So yes! Take it from me being a writer and living everyday life certainly clogs up your schedule!
Advice?
My advice to other writers that are feeling overwhelmed with too much to do whilst also trying to become a known writer is to take it one day at a time. Do whatever you are in the mood for. Try not to force yourself to write when you are not in the mood just because you feel rushed. It can cause you to not write at your best or overthink how you usually write. Taking a break is normal and sometimes essential! Sometimes for me I think I have to rush my stories and get them all done because I get excited about the publishing stage but the more you rush it, the more editing you will have to do in the end! Try not to overthink it. Only write when you are in the mood and you can't think of anything else.
